Description
Chrysogonum virginianum ‘Pierre’, commonly called Goldenstar or Green and Gold, is a wonderful North American native perennial groundcover that prefers life on the shady side. It was selected for its lower growing form and long bloom season. Growing to maybe 6 inches tall in flower, it forms a dense, spreading carpet of fuzzy green leaves from which rise very cute, 5 petaled, star-shaped flowers with yellow petals surrounding a tuft of golden stamens. In cooler summer climates it will bloom from spring through summer and into fall. In hot climates it blooms heavy in spring, rests in summer, and then reblooms in fall. Butterflies and other beneficial pollinators love the flowers. A charming and easy to grow groundcover ideal for use in moist to dry shade or part shade, but not constantly wet soils. Perfect for woodland gardens and under shade trees.
Chrysogonum virginianum is native to the East Coast and Gulf states, where it thrives in mesic to dry or rocky woodlands, but is most commonly found at forest edges.
Landscape & Garden Uses
